Havering Council sets term dates for the area’s maintained schools, published via its official term dates page. Havering was historically part of Essex rather than London: the borough was created in 1965 when the former Essex towns of Romford and Hornchurch were transferred into the newly formed Greater London, and the area still has a noticeably more suburban, outer-Essex feel than inner London boroughs nearby. Department for Education data shows every state secondary school in Havering is now an academy, according to the most recent figures, with around 36% of primary schools also converted. As with most local authorities, these dates apply to the borough’s remaining maintained primary schools; academies set their own calendar, so it’s worth checking with your child’s school directly if they attend one. See our guide to the hidden maths behind the school calendar for more on how term lengths are balanced.
