About School Term Dates
School Term Dates is a free resource providing school term dates for all local authorities in England.
Term dates in England are set at local authority level for maintained schools, which means they vary from one area to another. This site compiles those dates from official council publications into one place, so parents, carers, and school staff can quickly find the dates that apply to their area without having to search individual council websites.
What we cover
The site currently covers all local authorities and unitary authorities in England, across all nine regions. Each local authority page shows the current academic year’s remaining dates and the full set of dates for the following year.
Dates are updated each summer when local authorities publish confirmed dates for the new academic year.
How we verify our data
Every summer, our team manually audits the official committee minutes and published calendars of all 150+ English local authorities. We link directly back to council portals and update our repository within 48 hours of official public notices.
A note on academies and free schools
The dates on this site apply to maintained schools. Academies and free schools are not required to follow local authority term dates and may set their own. If your child attends an academy or free school, always confirm dates directly with the school.
A note on INSET Days
Schools are able to choose 5 days per year for in-service training of their staff, these are known as INSET days, and for teachers of a certain vintage, Baker Days. These are set by each school and/or Academy Trust. This site does not track when these days are. Typically they are added to the start or end of a half term, but not always. Please check with your school.
