About these dates: Term dates for Rutland apply to maintained schools. Academies and free schools may set their own dates. Always confirm with your school directly before making plans.

Rutland County Council sets term dates for the area’s maintained schools, published via its official term dates page. Rutland has the highest academy conversion rate in the East Midlands: Department for Education data shows 95% of its state schools, including every secondary, are now academies, leaving the council directly responsible for only a handful of primary schools. Rutland is also England’s smallest historic county, with a population of around 41,000, one of the smallest local authority areas in the country, and has been a unitary authority since 1997, having previously been a district within Leicestershire. It’s currently part of a wider local government reorganisation covering Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, with new councils potentially arriving from 2028. As with most local authorities, academies set their own calendar, so check with your child’s school directly. See our brief history of INSET days for more background.
