West Northamptonshire Council sets term dates for the area’s maintained schools, published via its official term dates page. Every state secondary school in the area is now an academy, according to Department for Education data, with around 61% of primary schools also converted. Like its neighbour North Northamptonshire, the council is relatively new: it was formed on 1 April 2021 by merging the former Daventry, Northampton and South Northamptonshire councils, after Northamptonshire County Council was abolished following a critical government review of its finances. Schools in the area choose five of their own training days rather than having them set centrally. As with most local authorities, these dates apply to the area’s remaining maintained primary schools; academies may set their own calendar, so it’s worth checking with your child’s school directly. See our guide to why academies and maintained schools have different dates for more.
