North Northamptonshire Council sets term dates for the area’s maintained schools, published via its official term dates page. Department for Education data shows nearly 79% of the area’s state schools, and over 95% of its secondaries, are now academies, among the highest conversion rates in the East Midlands. The council itself is relatively young: it was created on 1 April 2021 by merging the former Corby, East Northamptonshire, Kettering and Wellingborough councils, after Northamptonshire County Council was abolished following a critical government review of its finances. Schools here choose five of their own training days rather than having them set centrally. As with most local authorities, these dates apply directly to the area’s remaining maintained schools; academies may set their own calendar, so it’s worth checking with your child’s school directly.
