Nottingham City Council sets term dates for the area’s maintained schools, published via its official term dates page. Every state secondary school in Nottingham is now an academy, according to Department for Education data, with around 65% of primary schools also converted. Unlike most neighbouring East Midlands authorities, Nottingham has also built a two-week October half term into its 2026/27 calendar, running from 19 to 30 October, rather than the single week that Derby, Leicester and several other local councils have chosen. Nottingham City Council is a unitary authority, separate from Nottinghamshire County Council next door. As with most local authorities, these dates apply to the area’s remaining maintained primary schools; academies set their own calendar, so it’s worth checking with your child’s school directly.
