Surrey County Council sets term dates for the area’s maintained schools, published via its official term dates page. Surrey remains a two-tier county, with the county council responsible for education while eleven district and borough councils handle other local services; unlike Kent or Buckinghamshire, Surrey County Council does not itself run any grammar schools, since the well-known selective schools often associated with the county actually sit just over the border in the London boroughs of Kingston upon Thames and Sutton. Department for Education data shows around 67% of Surrey’s schools are academies overall, rising to 91% at secondary level. As with most local authorities, these dates apply directly to the county’s remaining maintained schools; academies may set their own calendar.
