About these dates: Term dates for Buckinghamshire apply to maintained schools. Academies and free schools may set their own dates. Always confirm with your school directly before making plans.

Buckinghamshire Council sets term dates for the area’s maintained schools, published via its official term dates page. Buckinghamshire operates one of the few remaining fully selective, county-wide school systems in England: it has 13 grammar schools, and every child sits the Secondary Transfer Test, the local 11-plus, to determine whether they’re offered a grammar place. The council itself is relatively new, having become a unitary authority only in 2020, when the county council and its four district councils, Aylesbury Vale, Chiltern, South Bucks and Wycombe, were abolished and merged into one. Department for Education data shows around 43% of Buckinghamshire’s schools are academies overall, rising to 89% at secondary level. As with most local authorities, these dates apply directly to maintained schools; academies may set their own calendar. See our guide to key dates for primary and secondary school starters, particularly relevant here given the 11-plus timetable.
