Bath and North East Somerset Council sets term dates for the area’s maintained schools, published via its official term dates page. The authority was created in 1996 when the county of Avon was abolished and split into four new unitary councils, Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire, following recommendations from the Banham Commission on local government reform. Department for Education data shows academies now make up around 94% of schools in Bath and North East Somerset, one of the highest conversion rates found anywhere on this site, at both primary and secondary level. As with most local authorities, the small number of remaining maintained schools follow these dates; academies set their own calendar, so it’s worth checking with your child’s school directly if they attend one.
