Blackpool Council sets term dates for the area’s maintained schools, published via its official term dates page. Blackpool became a unitary authority in 1998, at the same time as neighbouring Blackburn with Darwen, both separating from Lancashire County Council while remaining part of the ceremonial county. Department for Education data shows around 87% of Blackpool’s schools are academies overall, with every state secondary school and 83% of primaries now academies, among the highest conversion rates in the North West.
