Liverpool City Council sets term dates for the area’s maintained schools, published via its official term dates page. Liverpool has been a metropolitan borough since 1974 and has run its own services independently since Merseyside County Council was abolished in 1986, though Merseyside survives as a ceremonial county shared with its four neighbouring boroughs. Department for Education data shows around 32% of Liverpool’s schools are academies overall, rising to 73% at secondary level, while primary conversion is much lower, at around 20%. As with most local authorities, these dates apply directly to the city’s remaining maintained schools; academies may set their own calendar, so it’s worth checking with your child’s school directly if they attend one.
