Halton Borough Council sets term dates for the area’s maintained schools, published via its official term dates page. Halton became a unitary authority in 1998, separating from Cheshire County Council at the same time as neighbouring Warrington, more than a decade before the rest of Cheshire was itself split into two unitary councils in 2009. Department for Education data shows around 35% of Halton’s schools are academies overall, rising to 88% at secondary level, while primary conversion is much lower, at around 27%. As with most local authorities, these dates apply directly to the borough’s remaining maintained schools; academies may set their own calendar, so it’s worth checking with your child’s school directly. See our brief history of INSET days for more background.
