Leeds City Council sets term dates for the area’s maintained schools, published via its official term dates page. Leeds was one of five metropolitan districts that made up West Yorkshire from 1974; when West Yorkshire County Council was abolished in 1986, Leeds took over full responsibility for its own services, including education, and remains the largest of the five former West Yorkshire districts by population. Department for Education data shows around 44% of Leeds’ schools are academies overall, and just 37% at primary level, one of the lower conversion rates in Yorkshire and the Humber. As with most local authorities, these dates apply directly to the city’s remaining maintained schools; academies may set their own calendar. See our guide to why academies and maintained schools have different dates for more.
