Central Bedfordshire Council sets term dates for the area’s maintained schools, published via its official term dates page. Like neighbouring Bedford, parts of Central Bedfordshire have historically run a three-tier lower, middle and upper school system, and the council has been running an active programme to move remaining three-tier areas over to the standard two-tier primary/secondary model, which affects the exact age children transfer schools. Central Bedfordshire itself has only existed since 2009, when Bedfordshire County Council was abolished and its area split between this council and Bedford Borough. Department for Education data shows around 57% of local state schools, and 89% of secondaries, are now academies. As with most local authorities, these dates apply to maintained schools; academies may set their own calendar, so it’s worth checking with your child’s school directly.
