Coventry City Council sets term dates for the area’s maintained schools, published via its official term dates page. Like Birmingham, Coventry became responsible for its own education services in 1986, when West Midlands County Council was abolished and its functions passed down to the seven metropolitan boroughs that had made up the county since 1974. Department for Education data shows every mainstream secondary school in Coventry, 100%, is now an academy, though the picture is very different at primary level, where fewer than half of schools have converted. As with most local authorities, these dates apply directly to the city’s remaining maintained schools; academies may set their own calendar, so it’s worth checking with your child’s school directly. See our guide to why academies and maintained schools have different dates for more.
