Wolverhampton City Council sets term dates for the area’s maintained schools, published via its official term dates page. Wolverhampton has set its own education policy since 1986, when West Midlands County Council was abolished and its seven constituent boroughs, including Wolverhampton, took over county-level responsibilities independently; the city had briefly held county borough status of its own before the 1974 reorganisation absorbed it into the new metropolitan county. Department for Education data shows around 74% of Wolverhampton’s schools are academies overall, rising to 90% at secondary level. As with most local authorities, these dates apply directly to the city’s remaining maintained schools; academies may set their own calendar, so it’s worth checking with your child’s school directly if they attend one. See our guide to why academies and maintained schools have different dates for more.
